About the artist
background
My parents were both actors from the 1940’s onwards. From an early age, I was in and around theatres, locations, sets, offices, public events, etc; all part of the creative process. On the stage, on the radio, and on television. They were performers. They were “on.” I was fascinated by Canadian television, radio and film.
In 1951, the family moved from Chelseas’ Kings Road to a cottage in Rye Harbour, on the Sussex coast. It was owned by a painter called Edward Le Bas who my father knew, possibly from the pubs on Kings Road in Chelsea.
I went to prep school, in London, riding bicycles and the underground. Commando games in Richmond Parks, The Scouts, journeys to the Lake District and the west of Scotland. At 13, I went to a boys boarding school in Bedford.
I attended Princeton University, and graduated with an Anthropology Degree. I also pioneered and coordinated a well received film production course that helped numerous students become film makers.
I have worked as a Television Director, Editor, Producer, Writer, and Broadcast Executive. I produced a comedy series called “An Evening at the Improv”.
The Art
Growing up without a TV meant I had to find my own fun. I’ve always done writing and drawing, and discovered so many things I didn’t even remember doing. I’ve scanned about 50 years’ worth of drawings into my computer, and started sending them out to friends every morning.
Suddenly, I’ve found myself with a new persona as an artist.
Featured Art:
john nitewright
Based upon doing a caricature of a newspaper writer from the 1970s I found John Nitewright, ace correspondent.
An Englishman who finds himself and his family living in Florida writing for a sleazy tabloid… coincidentally he always seems to be the man on the spot…at the Nativity.
John Nitewright gave up smoking cigarettes in the 1980s. As a journalist he wanted to set a good example. All that straw in the manger might catch fire. John Nitewrite has always thought of himself as Humphrey Bogart.
